The first step to creating a website is to create a hierarchy of all the pages you want on your website. Such as this:

Keep in mind to make the home page the starting point on your hierarchy and then blanch off from the homepage with the pages you plan to link to on your navigation. Those are your top-level-pages. Any pages that branch off from your second-level pages should be placed under that second-level page. The same goes with pages that you plan to branch off from the third, fourth and so-on pages.
Now that you have a basic hierarchy of your pages, you should create a sketch of your template or template(s). This is what each page will look like in general. Keep in mind to follow your site map's hierarchy when you create a template or template(s). Also create a navigation bar (usually under the logo or on a side of the page) that links to your top-level-pages so that users of your website can easily navigate around your website. One of the worst things you can do with a website is to make it not easy to navigate. You're guaranteed irritated users if it's not easy to navigate. Also another thing I keep in mind when building a website is to keep it simple. This means avoid clutter of images, link, text, videos, etc. If the purpose of your page is to display a list of articles, you should stick to your articles and the most important things related to your article. Having too much information on a web page can make navigating difficult and can increase the time it takes to load that page. Here's a sample of a basic layout:

You can add more detail later; for now you should stick to simple line drawings with basic detail.
Here you can start placing where your images and text should go. Use simple boxes as place headers for images and videos and scribbles if your drawing on paper or dummy text if your using a computer. Keep in mind your site map hierarchy and simplicity.
Get together any images, videos, content, etc. you plan to use on your website. If you have a logo or an image you want on your logo please include it when you contact me. Even if your text and images aren't perfect, it's better than nothing and you can change them later.
Consider buying a book or finding a tutorial on Search Engine Optimization. This will give you good ideas on how to design and organize your website.
